For more than 50 years, John Lowell, the 19th century poet, had oatmeal for breakfast. One morning, the cook was shocked when she burned the oatmeal and then discovered there was no more in the pantry. “Mr. Lowell”, she said, “there isn’t going to be any oatmeal for breakfast this morning.” “That’s quite alright, my dear,” he replied, “I never really cared for it anyway.”
This past week, most the regular 6 to 8 members who attend the 8am worship service at St. James, met for coffee and a discussion about whether to continue the 8am service. They were unanimous in the decision to end the 8am service, at least for November and December. The main reason being that it has been hard for the few who serve to carry the cross, climb the steps and light the candles.
In January, we will host a “Ministry Fair”, and ask for others to sign up to help serve at the 8am service. We will revisit the situation then.
Also, in November, we will have the Canon to the Bishop, Katie Pearson, who has been working with our Search Committee, to preach at the 10am service. We will only have one service on that day. Then in December, our choir will present a Lessons and Carols service at the 10am service and will want the entire congregation here for that one service. Please mark both of these on your calendars:
November 1 : The Rev. Katie Pearson to preach.
November 14: Annual Saint James Bazaar
December 13: Lessons and Carols
BEGINNING ON NOVEMBER 1ST ONLY ONE SERVICE ON SUNDAY AT 10am.
Please let me know your opinion on this change, and let those who attend the 8am service know of this change.
Thank you,
Bob +
