A Word From Father Bob

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus sends his disciples out to “preach and to heal.” As modern day disciples, we are okay with the preaching part of Jesus’ commission, but not so good with the healing part. In fact, in seminary, priests take courses in homiletics to learn how to preach, but we received no training, or teaching, on healing. In spite of this, God continues to heal. Sometimes miraculously, sometimes through modern medicine, and sometimes perfect healing, through death. It is all a mystery.

Kay and I are going to go with Roger and Cindy Holliday to a healing conference at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin, GA on Saturday, November 7th. The Rev. Nigel Mumford, an Episcopal priest will offer a teaching on healing at 3pm EST, then there will be a healing service in the church at 6pm EST. If you would like to ride with Kay and me, please let me know. I can also give you more information and the church’s address. It is about a 2 hour drive from Alexander City.

I have been involved in healing ministries since seminary. It is so simple to call on the Holy Spirit and let him do the work. In many of my past parishes, I would offer annointing with oil (Holy Unction) at the altar when you receive communion, for those who wish. God also hears our prayers which we offer in the Prayers of the People, and heals those we pray for. Our God is a mighty God. Let us not only preach the gospel, but also seek his healing, for ourselves and others.
