In case you didn’t know, Palm Sunday is a unique service in our church. It commemorates the day of our Lord’s celebrated entry into Jerusalem, and the events that led to his arrest, torture and crucifixion.

Palm Sunday, Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, begins our Holy Week journey.
Monday through Thursday we continue the St. James tradition of daily noon prayer and meditations from visiting ministers.

Our Lenten journey continues in much the same way it started; and yet, we will turn a corner this Sunday as we enter the fifth week of the season.

St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) has become such a fun celebration in so many cities in the United States. It’s a day when everyone can choose to become Irish.

This Sunday is a milestone on our Lenten journey: We have reached the half-way point! Half of the season of Lent is behind us, and we can see, just on the horizon, a sliver of light that is the Easter promise.

Over these many decades of my spiritual journey, I find that the simplest phrases become theological reflections. SPRING FORWARD has made me ponder its meaning for my life.

I’m really not much of a hiker. Really. It’s not that I can’t hike or won’t; it’s just not something I think of doing very often. But when I do think of it and get up, go outside and hike some of the trails around Lake Martin, I am always rewarded with views or experiences of nature that feed my soul.

We have enjoyed fish and fellowship at our Shrove Tuesday gathering.
We have received ashes on our foreheads at our Ash Wednesday service. Our Lenten Season has begun.

Some twenty-eight years ago, I went to our diocesan church camp, Camp McDowell, for the first time. It was love at first sight! Since then, I have been to Wonderful, Wonderful, Camp McDowell countless times.
