Epiphany Blessings
As our Epiphany season begins and as we enter a new year, I hold hope that God’s perfect peace will settle little by little into our hearts, into our nation, and into the world.
I have come across this reflection from Howard Thurman which offers inspiration for our trying times:
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart.
As followers of Jesus, may we live into our call to love and serve our Lord with the amazing gifts that He has given us. May we see Jesus in others and may others see Jesus in us.
I offer this Prayer for the Human Family (BCP, p. 815)
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
