A Note From Father Rob
My brother-in-law, Pat Upton, who passed away a few years back, was a renowned singer and song writer. He had a wonderful tenor voice, which was showcased in his No. 1 hit from 1969, “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday.” Pat began his singing career as a young boy, singing in the choir at Geraldine Baptist Church in Geraldine, Alabama, on Sand Mountain. It was there that he learned one of my favorite songs, and he regularly sang it, an old gospel tune written by Reggie Calloway called “Operator (Get me Jesus on the line).”
At its heart and soul, the song is about faith, prayer and our need to be able to speak to Jesus in our most difficult moments. One verse proclaims, “Prayer is the number and faith is the exchange. Heaven is the city. Jesus is the name.” In truth, we can speak to Jesus any time we want, and it’s even easier than making a phone call.
Jesus taught us that prayer is the key to communication with our Lord, and he is available any time we seek him. So, bend your knees, lower your head, humble your heart and talk to him as a friend. Speak to him of your concerns and desires, and make personal, heartfelt prayer a daily part of your life.
Peace, Rob+
